Kitchen Grease Transporter:
Since the mid 1990s Kitchen Grease (IKG) has grown to become a valuable commodity in California commerce. Once IKG is processed through licensed renderers, it is then used in a vast array of consumer products. IKG is transformed into a bulk commodity called yellow grease and is then sold to the agricultural, bio-fuel, and commercial industries. The agricultural industry transforms it into feed for the livestock, poultry and pet food industry; the bio-fuel industry manufacturers it into bio-diesel and other fuel components reducing California's dependence on the petroleum industry; and the commercial industry manufactures the refined product into soaps, cosmetics, shampoos, and other products.
The Kitchen Grease Program (IKGP) was established in 1995 due to great amount of theft of IKG beginning in the early '90s. The IKGP mission is to stop the theft of IKG and related damage to IKG containers through investigations and cooperation with local law enforcement and local district attorneys.
Any person who is found guilty of violating the rules and regulations of the Kitchen Grease Program is subject to imprisonment in the county jail for not more than one year, or a fine of not more than five thousand dollars ($5,000), or both imprisonment and fine. If the conviction is a second or subsequent conviction of a violation or the violation is committed with intent to defraud or mislead, the person is subject to imprisonment in the state prison, or a fine of not more than fifteen thousand dollars ($15,000), or both imprisonment and fine.
The leftover cooking oil, yellow grease, is the easiest material to turn into biodiesel. And as the alternative fuel's popularity has increased, so has its selling price, making it a target for thieves willing to go through the trouble of pumping or siphoning the grease out of storage barrels.
"It's liquid gold," said Daniel Rugg , director of engineering at the Four Seasons hotel in East Palo Alto, where security guards frequently chase away would-be grease thieves.
with a truck, a pump and a handful of 50-gallon barrels you can make a few thousand dollars a week.
